Here is my research question: Is it possible for a class to collaborate on a semester-long project almost exclusively during class time and learn more than a traditional educational environment?
Research: There is a debate among teachers (and students and parents) about the effectiveness of homework. In my experience, homework can be a great way for students to reflect on classroom material or preview a new section, but it can be incredibly difficult to make homework meaningful, relevant, and effective. Too often the end product is lackluster, routine, thoughtless, or worse- plagiarized.
Hypothesis: If class time is used efficiently to conduct research, develop understanding, and synthesize new ideas, then all members of the learning community will benefit to a greater extent than the traditional model.
Experimental Proposal: We will work together during every class to produce a blog that investigates the major components of introductory psychology. This medium provides an opportunity to create a variety of material from essays on a topic, book reviews, interviews with an expert, video of important concepts, and more.
